Tips from your Instructor: Christine

Whether you are new to pole or a vet pole dancer, here are some helpful tips from one of our pro instructors! It’s tough to stay motivated, but we got you.

1. What do you consider your dance style to be and why?

Sexy flow, hard hits and power moves. I love playing with primal and lyrical movement as well. I love experimenting with movement and feeling the music, so I feel I don't keep to one dance style.

2. How did you figure out your fav style?

Experimentation. I try different classes and instructors and see what movement I love and what doesn't feel right in my body. I watch other's routines and choreo and see what I like. I freestyle and explore movement to different songs. I let myself move with and without intention. I love that pole lends itself to all sorts of movement.

3. Does music influence your style, or is it more of a feeling in your body?

Music is the driving force that makes me feel it in my body. Once a song that speaks to me, the movement flows. Sometimes a song can make me go from uninspired to creating a new routine or choreo in no time. Often, I will be listening to music and a song will come on that I connect to and I'll start choreographing or creating a character in my head even before I can start dancing.

4. What is your dance background? Did this help you find your niche?

My primary dance background was Jazz when I was younger. While this may have influenced my movement, I have done a lot more exploration and experimentation once I found pole.

5. Do you have any tips for helping dancers find their style?

-Explore and experiment. Put a song on that you love and see how you move. It won't all be pretty, and that's ok, that's part of the process. I like to end choreo classes with some time to freestyle, so that everyone can explore a bit on their own. Even if that freestyle just ends up in walking around the pole, it still starts the journey to discovery.

-Try a variety of classes and instructors. You'll connect differently to different styles, moves and people, but it will all influence your journey.
